Patients Appreciate the Small Things

Like being acknowledged with the first name, or being asked first how they'd like to be addressed.   Eye contact.  A person who uses a simple touch to connect.  And always, a caregiver who explains what they are going to do, before doing it.

I found this Sanjay Gupta video particularly thoughtful.

Have you as a caregiver, ever had to be a patient?  What did you observe or learn "from the other side"?

  2. It is so sad that so many health care providers only realize this when they are on the other side of the bed.

I try to remember each day to treat my patients the way I want to be treated and want my family to be treated.
